Introduction to Marine Data Hub
Marine Data Hub ("Hub") is a data-sharing platform that operates on a principle of Assets and Data.
- An Asset is either a Vessel (e.g. a Tanker of some type), a Company (e.g. a Tanker Operator) or a Terminal (e.g. a crude oil facility).
- Assets must have an owner, for Vessels this is the Technical Manager as determined by existing industry data.
- Data is either a Document or Photo, Hub Dialogue, Hub Report or Voyage Log.
- Data is always linked to an Asset e.g. a Photo of a Vessel will be explictly associated with that Vessel and owned by the organisation that uploaded it into Hub.
Data Ownership Principles
Any Hub user may attach Data to any Asset, regardless of who owns that Asset. That Data will only ever be visible to the person that uploaded it, and other people they explicitly choose to share it with, with one exception:
Any documents attached to a Vessel by a Classification Society, will automatically be shared with the current Owner of the Vessel (the Technical Manager).
Valid Data Types for Assets
Not all Data is supported by all Assets, as indicated in the table.
